Average Release Times for the Republic of Malawi

In accordance with the Agreement on Trade Facilitation under the World Trade Organization which entered into force on the 22nd of February 2017, and referring to Article 7.6 of this Agreement (“Establishment and Publication of Average Release Times”) the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism would like to inform the public about the following average release times for the Republic of Malawi:

·      Average release time for imports was measured as 10 hours and 18 minutes at the border of Mchinji, 1 day, 0 hours and 42 minutes at the border of Dedza and 10 hours and 5 minutes at the border of Mwanza.

·      Average release time for exports was measured as 2 hours and 54 minutes at the border of Mchinji, 6 hours and 11 minutes at the border of Dedza and 45 minutes at the border of Mwanza.

This information on average release times in Malawi was estimated through a Time Release Study conducted on behalf of the secretariat of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA). The Time Release Study was conducted at the borders of Mchinji on 24th – 31st of January, 2017, in Dedza on the 2nd – 9th of February, 2017 and at the border of Mwanza on the 11th – 17th of February, 2017. The methodology used to measure the average release times of imports and exports was the Time Release Study developed by the World Customs Organisation (WCO).
