President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika launches Buy Malawi Strategy (BMS)

Summary

The Malawi Government through the Ministry of industry and Trade launched the Buy Malawi Strategy (BMS) on 18th March 2016. The BMS aims to encourage the purchasing of locally produced goods and services through deliberate interventions. In his statement entitled "This is An Oath of Patriotism Pledged To Our Country", President Mutharika reiterated his government’s commitment to facilitating productivity and export oriented growth that is job creating. He encouraged the private sector to take a proactive role in industrializing the country by complementing government efforts.

President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika  launches Buy Malawi Strategy (BMS)

The Malawi Government through the Ministry of industry and Trade launched the Buy Malawi Strategy (BMS) on 18th March 2016. The BMS aims to encourage the purchasing of locally produced goods and services through deliberate interventions. The BMS has been supported by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and backs one of government’s core development objective which is to promote industry, trade, and private sector development for sustainable economic growth of the country. The BMS mainly focuses at communication to the public the benefits of buying local goods and promoting the quality standards local products.

The broad assumption is that as Malawians promote their own products; demand, production and employment rate of the country will increase.
