National Industrial Policy and Trade Policy Launch
Close Date/Time:07-10-2016 12:00
The Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism wishes to advise the general public that it will be launching the National Industrial Policy (NIP) and Trade Policy (TP) on the 07th October, 2016 at Bingu Wa Mutharika International Convention Centre (BICC) from 9:00 am. Invited Guest are expected to be seated by 8:45 am.
The Guest of Honour at the function will be Hon Joseph Mwanamvekha, M.P, Minister of Industry, Trade and Tourism, who among other things will officially launch the two policies.
The Ministry has been implementing the Integrated Trade and Industry Policy which was developed in 1998. However, it was noted that the Integrated Industry and Trade Policy was not sufficient enough to effectively guide the country in the current competitive global economy. It is against this background that the Ministry decided to develop the NIP and the TP. Furthermore, these policies are anchored against the Malawi Growth and Development Strategy II goal of accelerating Malawi’s economic transformation from being a predominantly importing and consuming country to a producing and exporting one.
The development of the policies involved extensive consultation with key stakeholders. The policies thus provide a clear policy direction and roadmap on how Malawi can transform economically by addressing key challenges that have hindered industrialization and the country’s ability to take full advantage of existing and emerging international market access opportunities.
The launch will be attended by a cross section of people including Senior Government Officials, Development Partners, the Private Sector, MPs, Academia, Legal Experts, NGOs, Members of the Civil Society and the members of the general public.
Let us all join hands in promoting in Malawi’s sustainable economic growth through industrialization and trade facilitation
